Jonathan Van Ness is most well-known for being a television personality and member of the new “Fab Five” on the hit Netflix reboot of Queer Eye. On the show, he serves as the grooming expert! In addition to his success as a hairstylist turned tv show celebrity, Jonathan is a comedian, New York Times best-selling author, and an entertainer at heart. Jonathan strives to make others see their beauty and their worth- both on the outside and on the inside.
Jonathan was openly gay throughout his life. He has shared that he experienced frequent and extremely harsh bullying. Despite the trauma, judgment, and ridicule he faced, Jonathan stayed true to who he was. Later on in his life, he realized that he was non-binary and gender nonconforming. He remains positive in all of his endeavors and strives to make the world a more equatable and happier place.
Before Queer Eye, Jonathan’s journey in front of the camera started when he did the hair of his friend Erin Gibson for a successful comedy web series called “Gay of Thrones”- an impromptu recap of the hit tv show Game Of Thrones. This series went on to receive nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series three times! Apart from hairdressing, Jonathan also started his own podcast called “Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness” that aired over 250 episodes. Eventually, this led to his accomplishment of landing a role in the Fab Five and due to Queer Eye’s success, Jonathan is executive producing and hosting his first solo network series. This series is essentially a continuation of his podcast, but to be filmed and streamed on Netflix!
Jonathan has also been able to launch his own brand called JVN. It offers a cruelty-free line of hair care products that have a non-gendered approach. His products are sustainable and are intended for every person and any hair type, which highlights his life mission to spread acceptance and equality across all platforms!
